i searched for 'trying winning' on Google and found this article....Trying is really really important....Last month i had a 3-day gaming competition and registered for FIFA 2008 game competition.I wasn' t awesome in it but still i knew the basic controls.I Lost in the first round miserably.....i felt bad, i felt really really bad...all the POSITIVE THOUGHTS of winning i had were shattered...However, that day itself i decided that i'll TRY again tomorrow since the registration were open the next day..I Lost AGAIN....But this time i improved my game and i lost in penalties...so i played much better than the last time...So, My equation of winning is (and i'm sure i'll win that competition next year):-TRYING + ATTITUDE TO NEVER GIVE UP = VICTORY :)

I like your thinking, Lydia. Your determination and consciousness about who you are and what you want is impressive. We'll have to agree to disagree about my ideas on TRYING. I love your passion...DEW

Nothing I wrote has anything to do with ignoring the possibility of failure. In fact, to fail fast is a success since you haven't wasted time "flogging a dead horse" and it is hoped you learn from that failure. But, by saying you'll try you are not fully committing, consequently you are introducing the greater chance of failure.Trying is not winning the moment. It's copping out in the moment, because you don't have the courage of your convictions. If you can't fully commit, don't even bother. You will fail because you only tried. As for the woman who was scared off, it obviously wasn't a match. Either the threats weren't defended or, more likely, the woman just doesn't have the heart of a true entrepreneur. She's looking for guarantees and, as we know, those don't exist beyond death and taxes!

i think that ignoring the possibility of failure can very easily lead to failure. i also think it takes a very positive attitude to be able to contemplate the areas where one might fail without falling into the negative mindset that Lydia talks about. Just yesterday I experienced that some people find this quite challenging.I put a joint venture proposal to someone, a venture that would benefit from the combined experience and resources of both parties. So I put together a very detailed SWOT analysis. To me a SWOT analysis should have a lot of things in both sides... If the threats and weaknesses far outweigh the trengths and opportunities, then usually it will not be worth pursuing. But you will find weakenesses and threats in anything you do and it would be foolish to ignore those - success hinges on being aware and ready for them.the other party told me that if i hadn't highlighted all the negatives she would have been a lot more up for it, but as it was, she was quite scared off by all those threats. it just goes to show that some people find it more challenging to be positive faced with negatives.
