Feeling Better About Being a Criminal!

Digging up Dirt!

A handy place to dig up dirt on all your friends...

In my zest for tracking the coolness that is Web 2.0, I came across the Criminal Searches website… and yes… unfortunately I found myself displayed!

So of course I had to search for all my friends and family (which was not so fun because everyone came up clean) and once that was done… WELL… I was sobered by the transparency that the web demands — and a little off-put by the dual nature of serving up “dirt” on the neighbor-next-door while inserting enough disclaimers to make sure everyone feels like it is all “good fun”…

I was amused at the absurdity of the disclaimer on the top of the search results page.  Which said:

Note: Some states include minor traffic offenses in the data that we receive; however, these people might not be actual criminals.”

Ummm… question:

Isn’t a criminal “someone who breaks the law” (i.e. commits a crime…)?  SO if you are going to present the case that someone has broken the law should they not also be criminals? Traffic tickets included…

I think that’s part of the NEW social web — information is assimilated for the inquisitive searcher yet presented “nicely” enough that we feel helped…

By the way, if you care enough, my database record for speeding 95 MPH in a 65 MPH zone, can be found here
