The Power You Have.

You may think sometimes that you are powerless to change the situation you are in.

It may appear that you are powerless to escape the pain you feel, the consequences you have accrued, or the thoughts and doubts that make you feel inadequate to the task at hand.

But the power you have is really quite impressive.

You have the power to:

  • take the first step.
  • choose to look for bright outcomes.
  • show kindness in spite of your fears.
  • challenge conventional limitations.

And those decisions are powerful all by themselves.

To change. To be.

That’s the ultimate power.

And you have it.

And that means that no matter how daunting any task or opportunity appears, you are more powerful than the obstacles you face.

But power isn’t anything of value to you unless you actually use it.

It’s just potential.

And potential won’t help you:

  • do anything of worth
  • find positive outcomes
  • be a kind person
  • take on peer pressure

Potential is just your option to be powerful, if you choose to be.

What will you choose?

And when?

One of my superpowers is–that selling what I want to sell is not about features and benefits, it’s not about price, it’s not about specific services I would offer and the customers we’ve delivered them to (other than in the context of what I’m about to explain). It’s about stories. I will be more successful in selling my services when I have better stories than the other guy. You and I, and anyone else who wants to sell our services effectively, must be great story tellers. We must be able to but the value of what we are delivering into context for the buyer. The buyer will need examples of how it works, how their brand connects with people and can create value in a new economy. They need stories of success in how other companies in similar situations applied what we are selling to achieve greater success.

      Frank,

      You’re right.

      It’s a story. A conversation.

It’s not me shouting at you.

      Great point, Frank.

There is so much power in the “story”. In the way that words force our minds to dream.

Power is fed by an internal and an external source: your believe in your abilities and by those that chose to follow you. You can control 100% of the internal source and by your behavior you can greatly influence the external source. I think it is important be constantly aware of the need to maintain both sources to maximize your outcome.
    Good thoughts, Dan (as usual…)

Thanks, Manfred, for the great observation. Controlling 100% of the internal source is controlling 100% of any situation.
