No One Likes A Weirdo.

That’s just how we’re wired.

If you aren’t relatable it’s impossible for your message to connect.

This is where religion goes wrong.  Politics too.

If you can’t relate to an idea or a belief then you naturally come to the conclusion that it is weird.

You don’t think your ideas are wrong. The only conclusion your brain allows is that the other person is wrong.

That’s how your brain is wired.

The slightest trigger can make a simple concept seem complex and out of place.

The wrong body movement. The wrong facial gesture.

If the other person’s brain can’t correctly interpret what you are trying to communicate, then it seems weird.

It’s important to remember when giving a presentation, delivering a sales pitch, a keynote address, or just having a one-on-one conversation with someone on your team.

If your message is not understood, then you are the weirdo.

Keep that in mind when talking to peers, prospects, or one-on-one with team members. Just because you think a concept is simple doesn’t mean that everyone else within earshot has a clue what you are trying to say.

If you don’t keep it simple then you just sound like a weirdo.

And that’s not a good place to be able to do something amazing.

Think about that the next time you don’t think those around you aren’t “getting it”.

Maybe it’s you who is the weirdo.

This is the weirdest thing you have ever written Dan! Enjoyed your perspective on this. It also might explain the responses from my kids.

How do you think I figured it out? :-)

Love the title! I think it is OK to be weird as long as you are flexible. Weird people shake things up – they challenge the status quo. I love the quote “Think like a wise man but communicate in the language of the people” If you transpose ‘wise’ with ‘weird’ you’ve got it!

I love it. “Think like a weirdo. Talk like a human…”

I love weirdos! Let’s remember here that 99.9% of humans simply copy what they see other humans doing, and rarely “invent” anything truly original. An infinitesimally tiny percentage of each generation is capable of moving the species forward, via art, science, literature, etc, while the rest just sit by and call them “weirdos” – until their ideas are respected and they become popular. That’s when the hipsters pipe up with “I knew him/her before he/she was cool”.

    It’s a sad gig.

I love weirdos too…. It is the weirdos that drive innovation.

So raise your glass to those who venture boldly after the “edges”.
