Waiting isn’t a viable business strategy. Oh sure. You can make it your strategy.  Just like you can dance around on your tip-toes with your fingers in your ears shouting “LaLaLaLaLaaaa…”

But it’s just ridiculous.  And you’re the one who comes out looking like an idiot.

And let’s be fair.

It’s damn hard sometimes to do what is necessary to save your business.  To change a culture.  To reinvent your marketing.

It takes pain and sweat and tears. And it’s not a one-day process.  Day after day after day you have to pull yourself off the floor and put yourslef into uncomfortable situations.

But that’s better than pretending like you don’t have a problem.

Stop pretending like it’s OK.

Problems don’t cure themselves. Time doesn’t solve bad ideas.  You are sadly misguided if you think that you can just outlast poor economic revenue conditions and grow later.

That doesn’t work.

Your business dies before you get a chance to start making changes. And even if you are one of the lucky few who make it out alive, you are at a significant disadvantage to the smart companies who have been gaining market share while you’ve been hiding your head down.

You lose either way.

Which, frankly, is stupid.  Because domination is just as easy of a choice as avoidance and denial.  It’s a just a decision.  A better decision.

And it doesn’t need to be overly intimidating.  You can make big changes in small steps.  You don’t need to throw everything away and start over.   That’s way too risky.  You just need to adapt and make changes.

There are two core questions that should guide you in your turnaround:

  • First, are we doing enough?  and
  • Second, are doing it fast enough?

Put the fires out.

Stop playing around at running a business.  Challenge your team members to rethink their ideology.

This is no time to ignore the blaze that burning.  You don’t have time to play it safe or pretend like you have elegant options.

Ask for help.   Get a different perspective.  Take small steps.  Push new limits.

Try something different. Don’t be afraid to make a mistake.  Stop accepting mediocrity.

Quit making excuses.
