3 Words That Will Change How You View Success.

Business can seem chaotic and confusing a lot of the time. There are so many choices and decisions you have to make that at times you can feel paralyzed by the enormity of what all is going on.

But when you feel weighed down by questions and fatigued by the journey it’s natural to throw up your hands and take yourself out of the game.

But the magic of opportunity and moving past obstacles is that anything is possible if you have enough heart and patience. You can move mountains. Blaze new trails. Conquer kingdoms.

It just requires relentless forward progress.

You don’t have to be perfect, powerful, or look pretty doing it. You just have to keep moving. One foot at a time in the direction you want to go.

  • It’s how extreme athletes run a 100 mile ultra-marathon. One step at a time.
  • It’s how Tesla is dominating the electric vehicle vertical. One invention at a time.
  • It’s how Apple redefined personal computing. One beautiful product at a time.
  • It’s how Zappos changed the definition of outrageous service. One customer at a time.

It demands relentless forward progress.

Deliberate, un-apologetic effort towards where you want to be. Each moment, each interaction, each challenge — they are all opportunities to build momentum. There is no “bad luck” or “everyone picking on you”. That’s just the nonsense your brain is telling you.

Everything — good, bad, or still-to-be-determined — is a test of your resolve. A gift of time. You get the chance to take what is given to you and bend it to your will. That’s not puffery or wasted motivation. That’s how champions view the world.

It’s all waiting to be conquered.

One step at a time.

  1. Couldn’t agree more…this echoes Earl Nightingale’s definition of success in his ‘Strangest Secret’ talk, he defines success as “the progressive realization of a worthy ideal.” I love this definition as it takes all the focus off of getting to one final destination, and brings you back to the journey, and all the little successes it takes to get to that final destination. Thanks Dan, love your posts!

I should have been more clear in the post. I write most of these article to myself. So, I usually “get it”. It’s a good reminder that I need to think about how other people read these article.
