Why Farmers Don’t Whine And You Shouldn’t Either.

Despite new tools and more sophisticated technology, the formula for success looks a lot like it did thousands of years ago.

  1. Have a dream.
  2. Put together a plan.
  3. Work like crazy.

There are always trendy strategies that pop up from time to time. Ideas for making more money faster, right now. Strategies to work smarter then harder.

The truth is that we are constantly looking for ways to reinvent the idea of being successful.

Which, on one hand, is exactly the way it should be. You should be questioning why you’re doing what you’re doing. You should never be satisfied with where you are and what you’re doing. The desire to be better should fuel your mind and drive you to ask questions you have never asked before.

On the other hand, there are lessons so simple that trying to reinvent them is simply denying the obvious.

Take for example the farmer. Every season he takes seeds and places them in the ground. He makes sure those seeds get water and sunlight. Months later, he reaps a harvest.

That has always been the secret to successful harvest — seeds, sunlight, and  water.

Since the beginning of mankind, we have never deviated from that formula. Equipment has gotten better. Water and nutrition has improved. We’ve even invented artificial sunlight to help grow plants indoors.

But, farmers don’t reinvent that formula each year. They don’t go asking themselves what can they do to work less and reap more.

The farmer knows that by following the formula, he’s going to successfully reap a magical harvest. From time to time the farmer is wrong. A tornado might rip through his field and destroy months worth of progress. A drought could starve his crops. The weather could be gloomy and unproductive.

The farmer doesn’t throw out the formula. He works hard to correct the problems.

That’s the lesson for all of us. There is confidence in knowing that you have a timeless formula for being successful. There’s a simple joy that comes from just putting your head down and doing what needs to be done.

There’s no need for whining. No need for excuses. No need for frantic late night searching for ways to make money fast.

Double down on what has worked for forever:

  1. Work hard.
  2. Be passionate.
  3. Work even harder.

Block out of your mind any other alternatives.

Refuse to entertain the fantasy that you can work less and end up making more.

Sweat it out. Lead.

And sweat some more.

Be a farmer.
