Be who you want to be. Do what you want to do. Go where you want to go.
Just don’t fake it. And don’t pretend like your destiny doesn’t matter.
We spend a lot of time pretending to be what we think other people want us to be.
“ALL TOO OFTEN, WE SACRIFICE HAPPINESS AND MONEY, MAKE DUMB CHOICES AND DESTROY OUR CHANCES FOR A BETTER FUTURE SIMPLY SO THAT WE DON’T NEGATIVELY IMPACT SOMEONE ELSE’S PERCEPTION OF US.”
And maybe I’m not speaking to you at all. (Maybe I’m the only one who does this brand of self-immolation.)
But here’s what I have figured out over the years.
The people who have your back when you’re struggling are the same people that have your back when you’re on the top of the mountain.
Your real friends are those who want you to be happy and successful. They aren’t trying to keep you down or compete with you or prove a point.
They want you to be the best version of you. Ego and fear hide this truth from us.
It’s crazy, but we feel like we need to be compliant — and not make waves. To not do anything that causes someone else to be uncomfortable.
That’s easier. Less confrontational.
And why cause problems when you don’t need to? This is about mindset and potential and more specifically, your happiness.
You can’t bring delight to others unless the fountain of delight within your soul is bubbling over already. You can’t bring surprise and excitement to those you engage unless within you is spewing a volcano of those same raw emotions.
You can’t fake it. So don’t even try. Don’t waste your time pretending.
Just be who you are. Just be. Just be. Grow, evolve, and intend to be the best version of you.
Those are words to live by.
